A not-for-profit organization in support of Shoreham-Wading River District athletics has formed a field renovation committee that will work to raise funds through donations and events to pay for field upgrades in the district with no tax increases.
The Wildcat Athletic Club was approached by a resident benefactor, who is a commercial builder, willing to donate surplus materials and labor toward the construction of a press box on the High School track and athletic field.
“We realize in this economic climate that tax-payer funding of these types of projects would be difficult to get support for, so we have decided to take this opportunity to show our children that if you want to make a change for the better, you roll up your sleeves and get involved," said WAC Chairperson Christopher J. Rosati in a release. "You don't complain about what is not given to you, you do your very best to go out and make it happen”
WAC has set forth a three-phase fundraising goal: outdoor lighting and press box, construction of bleachers and turf field.
The completion of the project is expected for the start of the 2012 fall sports season.
