Getting To Know Common Core One Fact At A Time

The Port Jefferson School District is offering residents a Suffolk County School Superintendent's Association brochure to help clear up some rumors.

Many districts are hosting forums and discussions to help parents, teachers, and students understand  what common core is and how that will effect students curriculum moving forward.

However, it can be confusing when you hear words like APPR, CCLS, and even ARRA. What do these mean? How do these acronyms affect your child?

Well, the Port Jefferson School District has decided to clear up some rumors about the Common Core and other regulations being passed down from the New York State Education Department by distributing a fact sheet created by the Suffolk County School Superintendent's Association.

"This PDF contains facts about the Common Core State Standards as well as other important education topics, including a brief history behind the initiative and a glossary of frequently used terms," said the district.

The district also referred parents to its website to learn more and ask questions.

A copy of the brochure is above, but to read the PDF in full click here.
