Local Districts Cancel Evening Activities Because of Snow

The Miller Place district said the board of education meeting will still be held tonight.

The Miller Place and Rocky Point school districts have canceled various events tonight because of the snow.

The Miller Place School District has canceled all activities scheduled for Wednesday evening, including athletics, drama club rehearsal and other club meetings. Afternoon childcare is also cancelled.

However, as of 3:30 p.m., the school still plans to hold its monthly board of education meeting at the North Country Road Middle School at 7:30 p.m. However, the student and staff recognition portion of the meeting will be rescheduled.

Rocky Point School District has canceled its Alternative Learning Center and Alternative High School for the evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the local area until 6 a.m. Thursday with a mixture of snow, sleet and rain throughout the day Wednesday. Accumulation of 3 to 7 inches is expected Wednesday and new snowfall overnight could total 6 to 10 inches.
