Miller Place Implements SCOPE Kindergarten Program

Kindergarten enrichment program will be introduced this upcoming school year.

After deciding not to implement a full-day kindergarten program in this year's budget after lengthy consideration, the Miller Place Board of Education has decided to approve a one-year SCOPE Kindergarten Enrichment Program.

The term is for one year and it comes at no cost to district. The cost per child is $318 a month and a room has been designated. According to board trustee Michael Unger, the program cuts down on transition time for those students involved. Students can take the bus one way but will either get dropped off or picked up the other way.

"After the long discussions we have had on the (kindergarten) issue, we felt this is a real positive for the community, educationally and economically," Unger said.

The program will be lottery based if demand exceeds supply.

Are you pleased that the district will introduce this program for the upcoming school year after the decision to not include full-day K this year? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
