Miller Place PTO Hosts Holiday Shopping Festival

Event features brunch with Santa at MPHS

The Miller Place Parent Teacher Organization hosted more than a dozen vendors  at Dec. 5 for its annual Holiday Shoppe.

Jewely, baskets, apparel, assorted items and paintings were all available for sale from vendors and organizations like the North Shore Art Guild, which lined what's commonly known as the senior hallway with their booths.

"I would say it was a good festival," said Joe Miller, treasurer of the art guild.

Students from the high school's musical education department sold poinsettias at the event to raise funds for Music in the Parks, an annual trip where they compete with other schools' bands and orchestras. This year, the music students will attend Music in the Parks at Six Flags.

"We've been selling a lot and it's been successful so far," ninth grader Julia Vasile said of the holiday flower sale.

The PTO holiday shop featured a brunch and picture opportunity with Santa.

Student and parent members of the PTO's basketball league met in the auditorium during the festival to receive awards from the season.

Miller Place resident Theresa Giovingos attended the ceremony with her daughter and said she was impressed by the selection at the festival.

"It seems like it was very successful," said PTO President Maria Schuchmann. "It gives the kids a chance to see what we're offering."
