Miller Place, Shoreham-Wading River Among Newsweek's Best High Schools

Both local districts ranked in the top 1,000 in America's Best High School rankings.

Ranking the top 1,000 high schools in the nation, Shoreham-Wading River came in at No. 549 and Miller Place at No. 768.

Schools are ranked as the ones "that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads." Six components provided by school administrators make up the rankings: graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent), and AP courses offered per student(5 percent).

Shoreham-Wading River's graduation rate was 98 percent, 91 percent of graduates were college bound, AP/IB test averages were 0.5, average ACT scores 24.9 and average SAT scores came in at 1572 to earn a Newsweek rating of 0.42.

Miller Place had a graduation rate of 94 percent with 97 percent of graduates college bound. Average SAT scores were 1485, ACT scores were 22.7 and AP/IB tests at 0.5, earning the district a rating of 0.28.

No other local districts made the lists. In the recent rankings by U.S News, no local districts earned a national ranking.
