A lot of families are still without power in Rocky Point. Why couldn't they hold off on school for a few more days. I now have to drive my son to and from Wading River to Rocky Point because we are lucky enough to have family to stay with. Not only do we have no heat power and a lack of food due to the storm. But now I have to worry about using gas. I hope whoever is in charge of opening the district took thes thing into consideration.

For the younger kids it is not as much of a big deal. Although I'm sure getting back to some sort of routine would be good. However the HS kids and some MS kids have AP exams and Regents to take during various times so missing an extra week can hurt them in the long run. This time my I was lucky and my power was only out for about a day and a half, however I was greatly affected by Hurricane Gloria in the '80s for 8 days....still had school for 5 of them, so I totally understand. We didn't have any local family to stay with and our family friends were out too, so unfortunately we had to stay. It's not fun, but hang in there.

I'm not understanding why MP high school is still closed. They seem to have power...what's going on? It shouldn't matter that the other schools do not have power...the ones that do should be open. Especially the high school, where it will become more difficult for the kids to catch up.
