Panthers Notebook: Boys, Girls Lax Each Win One
Panthers varsity boys and girls lacrosse combine for two wins during the week.
Boys Lacrosse
The Panthers went 1-2 during the week by defeating Southampton 18-3 before losing to Shoreham-Wading River, 15-8 and Islip, 16-8.
In Monday's big win over Southampton, James Read netted five goals and four others added two. Matt Hin made 8 saves in net for the Panthers.

The Panthers struggled defensively in Thursday's loss to Shoreham-Wading River, who imroved to 8-1 in League II play. A 6-0 fourth quarter run by Miller Place was too little, too late. Tim Rotanz led SWR with five goals and four assists.

Miller Place faces undefeated Comsewogue (9-0) Tuesday.
Girls Lacrosse
The Panthers defeated Bellport soundly Tuesday with an 18-3 win before losing to BBP 19-7 Friday. MP now sits at 3-6 in League II play.
In Tuesday's win, Kristen Ierna, Casey Browne, Tiana Parrella, Carissa Citro and Kayla Ceschini each scored two goals.
The team travels to Islip (3-6) Monday.
Baseball
The Panthers won their only league game during the week, taking down winless Amityville 12-4.
Dan Smith went 3-3 and Cody McPartland earned the win on the mound for the Panthers, who improved to 4-5 in League VI play. Miller Place also played two non-league games, losing to Glenn, 9-6, and beating Bayport-Blue Point, 12-6.
The Panthers begin a three-game series with Shoreham-Wading River (9-3) Tuesday.
Softball
The Miller Place varsity softball team improved to 7-4 with two wins and a loss during the week.
On Monday, the Panthers defeated Islip 7-2 in a league V/VI crossover behind the pitching of Jackie Gallagher and the hitting of Torrie Gallagher (3-4, 2 RBIs) and Paige Matuk (2-3, 2 RBIs).
On Wednesday, Tori Carlo pitched a five-inning no-hitter with six strikeouts and Marlaina Sherman went 3-3 with four RBIs in a 12-0 win over Huntington.
The Panthers fell 5-0 Friday to Deer Park, who clinched a playoff berth for the third straight season. Miller Place plays games the week of May 2.
Tennis
The varsity tennis team dropped to 2-4 in league play with a 7-0 loss to Patchogue-Medford (7-0).
Badminton
The boys badminton team lost to Half Hollow Hills, 5-4 and defeated Lindenhurst, 8-1. The Panthers are now 6-2.
The girls team fell to 3-5 with a 7-2 loss to Half Hollow Hills and a 5-4 loss to Lindenhurst.
Golf
The Panthers fell to first-place Kings Park 9-0 Wednesday. They are now 0-8 in League II play.
