Photo of the Day: Miller Place Students Donate to Animal Shelter
After donating to the Animal Shelter, students get a visit from a puppy from the shelter.
students recently helped animals at the Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.
The students recently collected and donated blankets, dog toys, and 1,062 homemade dog biscuits to the shelter as part of a lesson on empathy.
The students did this during a lesson on self-perception and how it's affect by negative things others say. They discovered that focusing on those animals in need gave them a sense of pride and boosted self-esteem. As a reward for their hard work, Cocoa Chanel - a sweet terrier mix from the shelter - came to school to visit the children.
