Push for Shoreham School to be Renamed After Principal Who Passed

Community members want to rename school after former principal who recently died.

Some Shoreham-Wading River community members expressed their desire at the last Board of Education meeting to rename the Miller Avenue School the Jack Schwartz Elementary School after the former principal who passed away March 19, according to a report in the Village Beacon Record.

Superintendent Steve Cohen said that before making a decision the board needs to review the process for changing a school's name. Community members and district employees talked at the meeting about how much Schwartz meant to them and their students' education.
