Report: Rocky Point Special Ed Parent Files Complaint with State

Mother of Special Education student files official complain against District with State.

According to a report in the Village Beacon Record, Jennifer Intravaia, mother of a Special Education student in Rocky Point, has filed an official complaint against the Rocky Point School District with the State of New York.

Intravaia has previously explained her daughter's situation with the Board of Education at meetings during this school year, claiming a restructured administation in the progam has resulted in her daughter receiving less care from the district.

Patch has previously reported on the changes with the Special Education department undergone this school year, and numberous parent's and students have voiced their concerns.

According to the report in the Village Beacon Record, Intravaia's daughter, Skylar, suffers from Asperger's syndrome and Intravaia says the changes with the system have caused the eighth-grader to regress this school year.

The report says school district attorney David Pearl recently sent Intravaia a letter "requesting an impartial hearing to resolve the dispute."
