Rocky Point High Band Performs Alongside Marine Band

Rocky Point High School’s ninth- through 12th-grade band students had the chance to learn and perform alongside members of the Quantico Marine Corps Band, one of the oldest professional musical ensembles in the Marine Corps.

During the music clinic, the professional musicians joined with the students in performing several of the selections that the high school bands had been learning.  Between each selection, the groups discussed the pieces and the adult musicians spoke about how the students can enhance their performances and shared techniques for maximizing the sounds of each instrument.

“Working with the Quantico Marine Corps Band was a fantastic learning experience for the students,” said Amy Schecher, secondary music chairperson and band teacher. “They had the opportunity to learn valuable performance tips about technique and expression. The experience of performing next to professional musicians was invaluable and truly enjoyed by all.”
