Rocky Point School Board Notes: Suffolk Honors JV Soccer, Board Approves Bond Changes

Junior high boys soccer team given sportsmanship award at board of education meeting.

Members of Rocky Point's eighth grade boys soccer team have been named sportsmen of the year by Suffolk County soccer officials.

The team won this season's Junior High Sportsmanship Award, which was presented to them by Councilwoman Jane Bonner, C-Rocky Point, and Suffolk County Legislator Dan Losquadro at Rocky Point's most recent school board meeting.

The award is given to just one team in the county each year for embodying sportsmanship throughout the season.

"Legislator Losquadro and I work in a field and live in a world where it only matters whether you win or lose, not how you play the game," Bonner said. "This is a situation where it really does matter how you play the game."

  • The board passed a change order to its bond that will net the board about $3,000.
  • The board passed a motion in regards to the use of a timeout room.
  • The board passed a motion that approves a $10,000 fine to be paid to the board by an unnamed teacher recently found guilty of an unnamed charge. The teacher has 18 months to pay the fine to the school board.
  • The board accepted 44 personnel changes including changes to salary, hours and staff.
