Rocky Point School Namesake Frank Carasiti Passes at 78

Carasiti, the namesake for Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School, died Saturday at the age of 78.

The namesake for the passed Saturday at the age of 78, disrict officials said.

Frank Carasiti, of Wading River, began in 1957 as a sixth-grade teacher in Rocky Point School District. He was asked to take on the job as Superintendent of Schools in the summer of 1963 as a temporary replacement for the Superintendent at that time. The position became permanent, and he held it until his retirement from Rocky Point in 1990.

“The district’s history shows that Mr. Carasiti was an integral figure in the development of Rocky Point from a summer community with a small elementary school to the larger, well-respected K-12 school district that it is today,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael F. Ring. “On behalf of the Board of Education, I send our deepest condolences to Mr. Carasiti’s wife, Vanessa, and his entire family.”

Viewing hours for Mr. Carasiti will be held at 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Sept. 19 and 20, at Alexander Tuthill Funeral Home in Wading River.

A funeral mass will be held at in Sound Beach on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with interment following at Calverton National Cemetery.

Did you know that the average school teacher is only paying 15% of theRead More actual cost of health care premiums for themselves and their families, when Medical healthcare insurance premiums are rising at an alarming 17% per annum? Do you realize that teachers are paid an additional stipend if they work more than 3 consecutive periods in a day? Are you aware that teacher pensions were protected during the stock market crash of 2008, when the average person's 401K was totally at risk? Perhaps if teachers realized how good they have it - look at the BIG picture and outside of their bubble - then they would complain less. Oh and yes, we need our loftily-paid Administrators to kick in some of the salaries, to help pay for stuff. Hard to believe the school districts' mantras that "it's all for the kids".
