Rocky Point Students, Teams Earn Athletic Honors

All 10 Rocky Point High School fall sports teams named Scholar-Athlete Teams.

Rocky Point students and teams were recently honored for various accomplishments in athletics.

High School seniors Angela Torriero and Sidarth Menon were recognized by the Suffolk Zone division of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, receiving Student Leadership Awards.

Torriero and Menon were nominated as Suffolk Zone recipients by their physical
education teachers based on phys-ed achievements, being scholastically sound, displaying outstanding character, being leaders school wide and serving as student role models.

All 10 Rocky Point High School fall sports teams have also qualified for the distinction of being named a Scholar-Athlete Team by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.

This honor is given to New York State teams who have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and possess a cumulative GPA of 90 percent or better.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment that marks not only the efforts of our teams, but also those of the entire district,” said Amy Agnesini, the district’s director of health, physical education, athletics and intramurals. “Everyone here in Rocky Point plays a huge role in educating our students, and it is because of that level of support that they are able to achieve these types of honors off the playing field.”

Teams with GPAs of 90-94.999 percent are awarded a commemorative certificate, while those with GPAs of 95 percent or higher receive a lapel pin.
