Rocky Point Teacher Awarded $2,000 Grant

Jennifer Meschi, a technology teacher at Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School, was awarded a grant through the national ING Unsung Heroes grant program.

Jennifer Meschi, a technology teacher at Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School, received one of 100 grants awarded through the national ING Unsung Heroes grant program. 

ING Unsung Heroes grants are given to K-12 educators who utilize new teaching methods and techniques that improve learning.

Meschi will receive $2,000 to fund “Science Alive,” a hands-on insect research project. The project is tied to the NYS Common Core Learning Standards and will enable three kindergarten classes to maintain ant farms and three first grade classes to work with ladybugs. Using various technological resources, the students will document their studies and integrate the project into other areas of study.

“Bringing together good old-fashioned hands-on learning with the wonderful technology that students have available to them today increases the impact of the lesson exponentially,” said Meschi.
