Update: Schools Announce Early Dismissals Due To Snow Storm

Due to a possible dumping of 14 inches of snow, local districts are calling for early dismissals and cancelations of classes.

With the Weather Channel reported as much as 14-inches to hit the area, school districts have already begun announcing early dismissals and closures. Here are the announcements so far:

Comsewogue High School

From Board of Education president John Swenning: "Here we go again. The latest forecast is calling for heavy snow this afternoon , so in order to have all the students home before it get to dangerous Dr. Rella has called for an early dismissal today." 

High School : 11:00
JFK : 11:45
Terryville/Boyle : 12:30
Clinton/Norwood : 1:15

There will be busing as usual.
Afternoon Boces cancelled.
All after school activities cancelled.
Daycare will remain open, if you can pick up your children early it would be appreciated.

*Update from Sweening -- All forecast are calling for 10"-15" of snow across the island tonight into early morning. Dr. Rella has made the call to close all buildings tomorrow. , This will give our staff time to clear all parking lots, walk ways and buildings. As well as give parents time to make any arrangements they made need for tomorrow. No Daycare. Please be careful and safe.

Port Jefferson School District

From superintendent Ken Bossert, "Due to the forecast for continued heavy snowfall and potentially treacherous road conditions, our MS/HS campus will dismiss today, Tuesday, January 21 at 11 a.m. Our elementary campus will dismiss at 12 noon," Bossert announced on the district website. 

"We will also be operating on a two hour delayed schedule for tomorrow, Wednesday. Jan. 22.  The weather will be monitored closely. Should the need arise to close school tomorrow, a follow up message will be sent."

Mount Sinai School District

According to a district official, there will be an early dismissal at all buildings today. The district also announced cancellation of its afternoon and evening activities. 

Rocky Point Union Free School District

According to the district website, there will be an early dismissal today for all schools using inclement weather bus stops. The release times are as follows: High School 11 a.m. | Middle School 11:50 a.m. | JAE 12:40 p.m. | FJC 1:30 p.m.

In addition to early dismissal, please note the following: Early return of out-of-district students, no PM BOCES, no late buses, and no religion buses. All after school activities are canceled including AHS, ALC, SHARP, ICARE, 
building use and after care. The PTA meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday, January 28.

Miller Place Union Free School District

The district posted the following message on their website, Due to the forecast for snow accumulation, the following is in effect for today:

Release Schedule:
HS 10:30am
NCRMS 11:00am
LADSBS 11:30am
AMPS 12:15pm

A.M. Kindergarten will release at 12:15 with grades 1 & 2.
There will be no PM Kindergarten.

There will be no after school child care and no after school activities for all buildings, including clubs, athletic teams, and drama.

The Cancer vs. Coaches Fundraising Event will be rescheduled.
There will be no activities at all buildings, including use of facilities by outside organizations.

All private schools and out of district students will be released approximately 3 hours early.
