Seventh Grade French May Return to Mt. Sinai

Due to increased enrollment projections, French I would return in 2012-13 school year.

The Mt. Sinai school district may bring back French I for seventh graders in the 2012-13 school year, if enrollment projections gathered from surveys play out, according to a report in the Village Beacon Record.

Classes are typically not offered when enrollment falls below 20, and the number for French I this school year was at 17, so the class was not offered. The district sent out surveys to gauge the interest in next year's seventh-graders for the language, and results showed that 22 students were interested.

"If those 22 kids hold, they will have French in September," superintendent Anthony Bonasera said.

Students in third through sixth grade were also polled, and aside from Spanish, Italian and French, Latin, Chinese and sign language also drew interest.
