Shoreham-Wading River Contemplating Special Ed Class Sizes

Board must decide between 12 or 15 maximum for classes.

The Shoreham-Wading River Board of Education is mulling a decision on whether to set the hard maximum Special Education class size at 12 or 15, according to a report in the Village Beacon Record.

Charles Althoff, interim director of student services, said the state no longer allows for variances from the class size limit so a decision must be made before enrollment.

Board members discussed whether to make the maximum 15 in order to leave room in case more special education students join the district, or to set it at 12 and have a class split if it goes over the limit.
