Shoreham-Wading River Students Take Virtual Field Trip

Students 'travel' to elephant sanctuary right in the classroom.

Shoreham-Wading River students at Briarcliff Elementary School recently traveled all the way to an elephant sanctuary in but didn't even have to leave their classroom.

Taking advantage of modern videoconference technology, the students were able to see and interact with Todd Montgomery, education manager at the sanctuary. He provided the students with a wealth of information about elephants, the sanctuary and the 15 different elephants that call the refuge home. Students were even able to view the elephants in real time, thanks to cameras mounted throughout the sanctuary.

This virtual trip was just one of several planned for Briarcliff students this school year. Later in the month, students will participate in another virtual trip called “Science of Sound” with the Cleveland Institute of Music. During this session, students will learn the scientific concepts behind sound in a highly interactive way.
