UPDATED: Snow Causes School, Community Closings

Local kids get a snow day Wednesday thanks to the ongoing storm.

The winter storm that started last night and is predicted to leave up to 18 inches of snow on the ground in the local area has led to school and other closings in the Miller Place-Rocky Point area.

Both Miller Place and Rocky Point school districts posted on their websites overnight that all schools are closed because of the snow, including all elementary, middle and high schools in the area.

The North Shore Public Library posted on its website this morning that its closed for the day and all activities are canceled.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the local area until the end of the day today. The Miller Place-Rocky Point area is in the stretch of Long Island expected to get the worst of the winter storm.
