Ports a 23-year Miller Place resident.

Doug Ports has been a Miller Place resident for 23 years and has two children graduated from the district and one currently in high school.

Ports is a U.S. Navy Veteran who has 24 years in operations management at Brookhaven National Laboratory under his belt and is currently the Director of Operations for the Plum Island Animal Disease Center with the Department of Homeland Security.

His history of community involvement includes being a founding and continuing member of the Miller Place Robotics Booster Club and Miller Place Friends of the Arts along with set building for the high school drama productions, 10 years of activity in local Boy Scout Troop 204 and a religious education teacher and member of the Environmental Committee with

"Next year's going to be worse than this year was," Ports said. "We have to make sure we have the right balance in the district.  It’s a lot better for a community if everybody is giving a little bit, everybody has a little bit and everybody can find their niche."
