Whiz Kid: A.J. McKeown an A.P. Scholar, Varsity Captain and More

Miller Place senior keeps busy in and out of the classroom.

Name: A.J. McKeown - Age 17

School: Miller Place High School - Senior

Accomplishments: A.J. was recognized by the College Board as an Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar. While a student at Miller Place High School, he has received the Award for General Academic Excellence and the Award for Excellence in Earth Science. He is a member of the National Honor Society, as well as the Foreign Language Honor Society for Italian. At all of the school's concerts, A.J. is part of the lighting crew.

McKeown is currently serving in the student government as the treasurer of the senior class.  He is also a member of the school's Service Club and the Varsity Club, both of which involve many hours of community service.  A.J.'s commitment to helping others extends to the Sound Beach Fire Department, where is is currently a junior firefighter but will become a full member when he turns 18 years old in December. He has also volunteered his time with the Sound Beach Civic Association.

As a four year Varsity athlete, A.J. has been captain of the cross country team, winter track team and spring track team.  On the two track teams, A.J. is a middle distance runner, competing in the 800 meter, 1600 meter and 4 x 800 meter relay events.

The senior is employed at Double A and J Landscaping, and in addition has a seasonal holiday job at Richard's Nursery. He will be graduating from high school in the spring and plans to obtain a business degree with the hopes of pursuing a career in marketing, business management or as an entrepreneur.
