Whiz Kid: 'Future Picasso,' Cub Reporter, Musician & More

Kaytlyn Donovan, a 2013 grad, has dabbled in everything from the arts to music to writing to art.

Name: Kaitlyn Donovan

School: Miller Place High School - Class of 2013

Accomplishments: Kaitlyn graduated from Miller Place High School with a passion for music and the arts.  An essay she wrote about this passion, and how it brings people together, earned her the Joe Keany Award.  She was a member of the Select Chorus, played the viola in the Orchestra and competed in the Miller Place Idol competition.  

A four year member of the Drama Club, Kaitlyn performed in the productions of Guys and Dolls, Curtains, Fiddler on the Roof, Sweeney Todd, The Laramie Project and Zero Sum Mind.

She was the recipient of the Drama/Thespian Society Award.  She used her skills to host a youth group talent show at St. Louis de Montfort Church.

In addition to her talents in music and drama, Kaitlyn was the recipient of the Excellence in Art Award in both her junior and senior years.  She took three Advanced Placement (A.P.) courses, including Studio Art and Drawing.  She was the head artist for the annual Student Government Spirit Week hallway decorating contest and well as for the Homecoming float.  She was voted by her fellow seniors as the yearbook's "Future Picasso" of her grade, helped make signs and displays for the New York State School Music Association's competition held at her high school this year, took 3rd place in the bookmark contest and won the page divider art contest for her school's Entre Nous Literay Magazine.  She mostly recently volunteered to paint a mural, covering an entire wall, in her high school's band room.  She wrote for her high school's newspaper, the Krob, and was the recipient of the Student Government School Spirit Award.

Kaitlyn enjoys giving back to her community.  She has volunteered her time working the Safe Halloween event,  helps care for a neighbor who has multiple sclerosis and has been volunteering  as an EMS member with the Miller Place Fire Department.

Kaitlyn will be attending Suffolk Community College in the fall, with the career goal of being a paramedic and has plans to continue in the art field, hoping to be a set builder and painter for television and theater and plans to continue to write and act.  She is employed at Walgreens.
