Whiz Kid: Gabrielle Garbe Brings Her Soccer Skills Around the World

Garbe, a Miller Place resident, attends boarding school in Minnesota and has played soccer in Austria.

Name: Gabrielle Garbe, 15

School: Shattuck-St. Mary's High School, Faribault, Minn.

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: After attending Miller Place High School her freshman year, Garbe began school at Shattuck-St. Mary's High School in Minn. in their soccer development program. She was nominated by her coach to be on the School Leadership Council  for 2011 while maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and focusing on getting into a D1 college, preferably on the east coast.

In July of 2009 she traveled to Austria with 40 other delegates with the program People to People where she competed against other countries, traveling as a Sports Ambassador and representing the United States. Her team competed against Germany, Switzerland, Slovakia and Austria.

Keys to Awesomeness: As a ninth-grader at MPHS she was a starter on the varsity soccer team and also played varsity lacrosse and varsity track, receiving the all league award for track.

The opportunity to further her soccer training at a higher level where they incorporate her training into her school day so that by 4 p.m. she has had 1 1/2 hours of training as well as completed her academics. At Shattuck, many of the teaching and coaching staff live on a close-knit campus.Garbe plays outside defense and outside middle and was on the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program.
