Name: Kyle Matura - Age 17

Accomplishments: The youngest of five brothers, who were all Boy Scouts, Kyle recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor a Boy Scout can receive.
Using the skills of leadership, cooperation, organization and goal achievement that he learned throughout his years as a member of Troop 204, Kyle completed his Eagle project to benefit in Port Jefferson Station. He raised the funds necessary to replace and repair the dog pens and with some assistance from fellow scouts, former scouts and adult leaders, he replaced 200 feet of stockade fence for the sides and backs of the pens and replaced and repaired 100 feet of galvanized chain link fronts and gates.
After he completed his project, Kyle had money left over, which he gave as a donation to Dori Scofield, the director of Save-A-Pet. In addition to the repairs that he made, he was able to provide pet food and supplies that were donated by others during his fundraising efforts. He also sent letters to veterinarians on Long Island explaining his project. Countryside Animal Hospital in Port Jefferson set up a raffle in their office to help Kyle with this worthy endeavor.
At Miller Place High School, Kyle has been a member of the Robotics Club since 2008. He has been the Build Team Captain and Robot Driver and was the recipient of the Robotics Award as well as the recipient of the academic award for Computer Aided Design. This course teaches students to use computer software to assist in the creation of a technology design. The technology department at the high school has the ability to allow students to go from an idea to a set of three dimensional technical drawings, to ultimately "print" components in plastic. These components can then be assembled into a finished product that reflects the student's design.
Matura has also been a member of the high school's drama club as the lighting crew director and has directed the lighting for all of the district's drama productions, as well as other district events. He has been on the high honor roll and plays the bass clarinet in the concert band.
The incoming senior would like to attend SUNY Oswego with the career goal of becoming a teacher of technology education.
