Whiz Kid: Lidiamo Durocher an Athlete and Musician

Entering 11th grade, he will be on the varsity football team for the third straight year.

Name: Lidiamo Durocher - Age 16

School: - 11th Grade

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Durocher was moved up to the Varsity football squad as a freshman and played throughout his sophomore year.  Durocher is currently hitting the weights and training to stay strong for the upcoming football season. The lineman has played both defensive tackle and offensive guard, and was even asked to be the legs of a ghost (with another student on his shoulder) in a recent drama production.

Key to Awesomeness: His accomplishment's branch out off the field as well. He has been playing the upright bass since the age of nine taught himself how to play the piano and the electric bass. The multi-talented musician doesn't need instruments to make music, as he is also an avid beatboxer and singer.

He has been part of the orchestra in Miller Place school district since the fourth grade and in the 10th grade he was in Vocal Jazz I, where he had five solos during concerts and also accompanied the vocalists with beatboxing. He has participated in NYSSMA, LIFSA and SCMEA music festivals.

This past school year, Durocher received the "JUST" award, an award given to a person who judges a situation, understands the conflict, solves the problem by taking action. He was recognized by the Board of Education in receiving this award. He has also done volunteer work for St. Jude's Children's Hospital and has tutored students in integrated algebra.

Spoken like a true teacher. Did you know that the average school teacher is only paying 15% of theRead More actual cost of health care premiums for themselves and their families, when Medical healthcare insurance premiums are rising at an alarming 17% per annum? Do you realize that teachers are paid an additional stipend if they work more than 3 consecutive periods in a day? Are you aware that teacher pensions were protected during the stock market crash of 2008, when the average person's 401K was totally at risk? Perhaps if teachers realized how good they have it - look at the BIG picture and outside of their bubble - then they would complain less. Oh and yes, we need our loftily-paid Administrators to kick in some of the salaries, to help pay for stuff. Hard to believe the school districts' mantras that "it's all for the kids".
