Whiz Kid: Miller Place Class of 2014's Alex Sobelman

Alex is headed to Gannon University in the fall.

Accomplishments: Alex was on the Honor Roll numerous times during her high school years and was a member of the Foreign Language Honor Society. She was an active volunteer with the Miller Place Parent Teacher Organization, helping out at their events year round.  She was on the varsity cheer team during ninth and tenth grades and was a Girl Scout for many years.

A competitive figure skater from second through eleventh grades, Alex skated with the Skating Club of New York at the Dix Hills Skating Rink.  She has been a competitive IGC gymnast since the fourth grade and competed at the Nationals in Orlando, Florida earlier this month.  Alex is an all around gymnast and her favorite event is the floor exercise.

Employed at Coram Materials in Miller Place, Alex will be attending Gannon University in the fall, where she was the recipient of both academic and athletic scholarships.  She will compete on their Acrobatics and Tumbling Team while studying pre-physical therapy requirements with the career goal of becoming a physical therapist.
