Whiz Kid: Miller Place Salutatorian David Luglio

Name: David Luglio, age 18

School: Senior at Miller Place High School

Accomplishments: David is Miller Place High School's salutatorian for the class of 2014. He was on the high honor roll for every quarter of his high school career, earning the Award for General Academic Excellence each year.

He tackled nine Advanced Placement (A.P.) courses and was the recognized by the College Board as an A.P. Scholar with Honor. He was also the recipient of the Award for Excellence in A.P. Biology.

David is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Foreign Language Honor Society for both Italian and French. He is the events coordinator for the Italian Honor Society. He spent the summer of 2013 as a foreign exchange student in Italy.

A Boy Scout from grades 5 through 12, David is an Order of the Arrow Member and earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor a Boy Scout can achieve. His Eagle project involved building a walkway for the Rose Caracappa Senior center, located in Mount Sinai. He has also volunteered his time for Hope House Ministries, food drives and environmental cleanups.

An avid trail biker, mountain climber and hiker, David has hiked extensively on Long Island, and in upstate New York, and Italy. David was the alternate winner of the National Association of Letter Carriers' William C. Doherty Scholarship for the Northern Region. In the fall, he will be attending Cornell University to major in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Ecology and Evoluntionary Biology.
