Whiz Kid: Miller Place Senior to Study Music Business

Miller Place senior excels in and out of the classroom.

Name: Megan Stade - Age 18

School: Miller Place High School - 12th Grade

Accomplishments: Stade is a high honor roll student who has received her high school's Award for Excellence in Dual Language (French/Spanish) and the Award for Yearbook Club.  She is the secretary for the Spanish Foreign Language Honor Society and the Editor in Chief of her high school's Dawning Yearbook.

Megan has been playing the clarinet in the district's music program since the fourth grade and is currently in the Symphonic Band. She has participated in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) competition in a clarinet trio, earning a score of outstanding. She also plays the guitar and has performed in the high school's Pop Jazz concerts and Variety Shows for the past three years and  was in the ensemble for the drama productions of Curtains and Fiddler on the Roof.

Through the Rocky Point Rotary Club, Megan's family hosted a girl from Spain for one month and then Megan spent one month in Spain with the Spanish girl's family in the town of Miranda De Ebro. She was able to travel to Barcelona, Madrid, Segovia, Zaragossa, San Sebastian, as well as to France and was a spectator at the Running of the Bulls Festival in Pamplona.

An active volunteer, Megan has donated her time to help out with the Dig Pink Breast Cancer fundraiser, Safe Halloween, the Homecoming Float Committee, ushering for the drama club and most recently as a student volunteer when Miller Place High School hosted the NYSSMA festival. She was a junior volunteer at Mather Hospital for three years where she received over 200 hours of community service and will soon be painting a mural with fellow students on the band room wall.

Voted "Class Musician" by her 12th grade peers, Megan will be attending The State University of New York at Fredonia, majoring in Music Business (Business Administration with a focus on the music industry).
