Whiz Kid: Miller Place Sophomore Kicks Up Top Grades, Heads Soccer Team

Honor student Dan Meneses keeps tops grades while kicking up some major turf on the soccer pitch.

Whiz Kid: Daniel Meneses, Age 15

School: - Miller Place High School - 10th grade

Accomplishments: An honor roll student throughout middle school, Daniel Menses was a member of the National Junior Honor Society, the recipient of the Long Island Foreign Language Award and played first chair cello in the Orchestera.  He participated in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) competitions and was the captain of the soccer team, as well as the recipient of the team's MVP Award.

Newly into his sophomore year at Miller Place High School, Meneses has brought his academic, athletic and musical talents with him.  He is enrolled in Honors and Advanced Placement classes and has been on the honor roll each quarter.  He continues to play the cello in the Orchestra and is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. 

 As a freshman, he was the captain of the JV soccer team and he is currently playing Varsity soccer, primarily as a center midfielder.  Outside of school, he has played with the HBC Soccer Club (New York State finalist) and the LI Rough Riders Super Y Soccer League as two time national finalists.  Meneses was selected for the New York State Olympic Development Program, wrapping up as regional finalists for the past two years.

His parents were both NCAA Division I soccer players, with his father playing professionally for a while in the USISL and USL.

Mensese has volunteered his time for the Lighthouse Mission.  He did a summer internship at Kick TV and has done summer work at Sound Soccer Academy.  His future career interests include sports analysis, writing and media.
