Miller Place Budget: Thank You to Many

Community sends strong, united message

Now that the Miller Place UFSD budget passed in resounding fashion, I wish to thank those that helped to make this year’s budget process and vote so successful. Thank you to:

  • The Miller Place Community for attending BOE meetings to keep informed and for voicing your wishes there or via email to the BOE, at public functions, by writing online blogs and comments, by using Facebook and other social media, and by all the other avenues you used to send your message. Thank you.
  • The Board of Education who listened to what we were asking for: No cuts to programs, clubs, and sports, and no piercing of the tax cap. Thank you.
  • BOE members Brian Neyland and Mike Unger for creating the Budget Process Committee which was open to all community stakeholders. This committee along with the Budget FAQ allowed us to openly communicate with the BOE and Administration. This year there were no surprises and much less anguish than during previous years. Thank you.
  • The leadership of Miller Place Athletic Boosters Club, Miller Place Friends of the Arts, and Miller Place Robotics for agreeing to stand together in solidarity that there be no cuts to any programs or there would be “no” votes from all groups. Thank you.
  • Miller Place PTO for keeping our parents informed as the budget evolved.
  • Central Office and Miller Place Administrators Association for your $4000 - $5000 . Thank you.
  • Supt. Hodun, Dept. Supt. Higuera, Asst. Supt. Lipshie and the entire staff of Central Office for listening to the community and BOE and for crunching the numbers to create a budget that won such approval. Thank you.

It is clear that times have changed in Miller Place. Our community has found its strong voice and we have a new BOE that is very eager to listen.
