Eagles Notebook: Girls Lax Improves to 7-4

Two wins slot the girls lacrosse team in ninth place in League II.

Girls Lacrosse

The Eagles started off the week with a bang with a dominant 21-4 win over Kings Park (4-7) and then defeated Miller Place 14-10 on Wednesday, May 4 to improve to 7-4 in League II play.

In the big win over Kings Park, Caitlin Gargan had a season-high eight points with six goals and two assists while Kristine Loscalzo had four goals, Alyssa Milano had three, and Jessica Hassett scored twice for the Eagles. Freshman Ashley Faulhaber scored her first varsity goal in the blowout.

In Wednesday's win over crosstown rival Miller Place, the Eagles were led by Alyssa Guido's six points on four goals and two assists while Gargan added another three goals and an assist.

The Eagles face Babylon (2-7) at home on Tuesday, May 10 at 6 p.m. and travel to Eastport-South Manor (8-4) on Thursday, May 12 for a 7 p.m. game.

Boys Lacrosse

The boys won their second straight with a 6-5 win over Westhampton Tuesday, May 3 before falling to Eastport-South manor, 15-7 Friday, May 6.

On Tuesday, the Eagles were tied with Westhampton 5-5 with five minutes left before Kevin Kramer took a pass from Dan Staker all the way for the game-winner.

The Eagles are out of playoff contention at 2-9 but will try to close out the rough season on a high note with three games to go. They play Southampton on Wednesday, May 11 at home at 6 p.m.

Baseball

The Eagles took two out of three from Riverhead before starting a three-game set with Sayville by losing Game 1 on Monday, May 9.

Against Riverhead, Joe DeFrank tossed a complete game shutout in a 6-0 Game 1 win, Brine Gill took the hard-luck loss in a 2-1 Game 2, and Frank Moscatiello earned his first varsity win in a 14-3 Game 3 victory.

A 3-0 Game 1 loss to Sayville Monday dropped the Eagles behind the Golden Flashes for second place in League VI. The series will commence on Wednesday in Rocky Point at 4 p.m. and conclude at Sayville on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Softball

The Eagles fell to 4-11 in league play by losing three of the past four games. Rocky Point has lost seven of its last eight games.

A 4-3 win over Deer Park on Friday, May 6 ended a six-game losing streak as Annie Kennedy earned the win on the mound.

Tennis

The Eagles fell to 7-4 in conference play with a 6-1 loss to undefeated Mattituck (12-0) on Monday, May 2.
