Eagles Scoreboard: Wrestling Drops Close Match to Westhampton

Boys and girls basketball lose their respective games.

In a week where snow reigned supreme, many sporting events were cancelled or delayed. Despite the weather, the Rocky Point Eagles did manage to compete in four contests this week.

Wrestling

After defeating the Miller Place Panthers in a make-up match Friday, the Eagles battled Westhampton in a key league match on Saturday.

Despite wins by top-ranked wrestlers Tommy Dutton and Matt Ross, losses by CJ Archer at 96 and Nick and Vin LoScalzo at 135 and 140 respectively  were too much to overcome in a 39-30 loss.

Boys Basketball

The Eagles dropped their fifth straight game Friday, this time to Kings Park, 61-46. They now stand at 1-6 in League V play.

Joe Kingston led the Eagles with 15 points, all from five three-pointers. Steven Soltysik added 12 points for Rocky Point, but no one else was able to score over five points in the loss. Kings Park's (5-3) Nick Borkowski proved tough to stop as he put up 19 points to help down the Eagles.

Girls Basketball

The Eagles fell to 0-8 in League V play with a 58-41 loss to first-place Kings Park Friday evening.

Senior captain Shannon Grodotzke continued her impressive season by leading the Eagles with 15 points. Freshman Annie Kennedy played well once again, adding nine points. Marion Kawecki had 14 points and five rebounds and Brittany Mueller added 12 points and eight boards for Kings Park (7-1)

What's Next?

The boys and girls basketball team each play two games this week. The main attraction will take place on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 4p.m. when the boys basketball team heads to Miller Place and tries to crush the Panthers' playoff hopes. The Eagles only league win this season came in a 55-48 win at home back in early January.
