Miller Place Wins Season Finale, Eliminated from Playoff Contention

Panthers beat East Hampton day after missing out on playoffs.

The Panthers were able to win the final game of a three-game series against East Hampton Thursday, but losing the first two during the week pushed the Bonackers into the playoffs while eliminating the Panthers.

Both teams were 8-7 vying for the last spot in the playoffs on Monday, but Miller Place lost 16-7 in Game One before a battle ensued in the second game.

Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh Wednesday, East Hampton's Maykell Guzman drove in his brother, Deilyn to win the game and clinch the first playoff spot for the Bonackers' since 2007. In order to qualify for the playoffs, team's must have a winning record and the loss sent the Panthers to 8-7 with just one game remaining, officially eliminating them.

In Thursday's win, Nick Acevedo pitched a complete game shutout with three strikeouts to earn the win and cap off the season. The Panthers finished 9-9 in League VI and 10-10 overall.

Playoffs Begin Saturday for Rocky Point Girls Lacrosse

The Rocky Point varsity girls lacrosse team finished the regular season on a five-game winning streak to end up at 10-4 in League II play. They will face Shoreham-Wading River (8-6) on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rocky Point.
