Mt. Sinai Family Gets Muddy in Riverhead Survivor Race

Mother and her two kids ran the race and obstacle course on Saturday.

It's the rare mom who spends her day off encouraging her children to run and crawl through a muddy field but that's exactly how Kristy Bohne and her two kids spend their afternoon this past weekend.

The Mt. Sinai family joined other thrill seekers in an outdoor, survival-style race that kicked off at the 4-H property on Sound Avenue in Riverhead this Saturday.

"It's a great 'starter' mud run," said Bohne, a kick-boxing instructor who holds classes at Journey's Fitness in Port Jefferson Station. She says that she has participated in other similar races.

Bohne said the Survivor Run on Saturday was "fun for all ages." She was accompanied by her 16-year old daughter and 9-year old son.

"It was very organized," she said. "I would absolutely do it again."

The outdoor race, according to the company's website, is also run in other states, and include obstacles such as mud runs, walls and nets to scale, and more. Another race is scheduled for September at the 4-H club in Baiting Hollow.
