State BMX Championships Coming to Shoreham this September

Event could draw more than 1,000 people to the local area Sept. 28 - 29.

Bicycle motocross riders are expected to take over the North Shore this September.

Shoreham BMX has been selected as the site of the 2013 New York State BMX racing championships on Sept. 28- 29 with its racetrack off Defense Hill Road, The Village Beacon Record reports.

Tommy Bivona, of Mastic, told Village Beacon that he expects roughly 200 competitors to gather in Shoreham for the state championship. Shoreham BMX has 975 members, that when combined with spectators could bring in a crowd of more than 1,000 people.

Shoreham BMX is sanctioned by USA BMX, a national organization that encourages healthy lifestyle choice and racing safety. The Shoreham track was also referred to as legendary and the most difficult track in all of New York in the August issue of Pull, a national monthly magazine that focuses on all things related to BMX.
