Panthers Scoreboard: Girls Basketball Wins League Game

Center Marlaina Sherman rips down 21 rebounds against Eastport-South Manor.

Boys Basketball

The Panthers were forced to play back-to-back games due to inclement weather and dropped both, first a key league matchup with Eastport-South Manor on Friday and then a non-league matchup with Hampton Bays Saturday.

On Friday, the Panthers were outscored by 12 in the second quarter by Eastport-South Manor as Curtis Smith put up 18 points, four assists and six rebounds to take down Miller Place, 57-35.

Eastport moved to 4-4 in League V with the win while Miller Place dropped to 3-5. Kevin Leyden led the Panthers with 11 points while Danny Finta added 10 points in the loss.

On Saturday, the Panthers dropped a non-league game to Hampton Bays in overtime, 56-52.

Miller Place scored 20 points in the second quarter and ended regulation tied at 48. They were outscored 8-4 in overtime, however, as Kevin Leyden's 18 points went to waste. Cameron Booth led Hampton bays with 23 points. Steve Jackolski and Danny Finta added 10 and nine points respectively.

Girls Basketball

The Panthers improved to 4-4 in League V action with a dominant 55-34 win over Eastport-South Manor.

Brea Greene led the Panthers with 18 points while center Marlaina Sherman had a monster game with 16 points and a season-high 21 rebounds. Deanna Molinelli added nine points in the victory.

Wrestling

Rocky Point's Tommy Dutton took down Miller Place's Ryan Brindley at 119 while Alex Hin lost to Rocky Point's CJ Archer at 96 pounds as the Panthers fell to their crosstown rivals in a makeup match Friday.

The varsity basketball team looks to keep its playoff hopes alive and avenge an early January loss to rival Rocky Point when they come to town on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 4p.m.
