Playoff Updates: Soccer and Field Hockey Teams Advance

SWR Boys and girls soccer win first round matchups, Rocky Point and Miller Place field hockey teams advance.

First, and in some cases second round matchups are through as fall sports playoffs are well underway. Here is an update on how the local squads have fared

Boys Soccer - A Bracket

In an epic contest, No. 6 Miller Place fell to No.3 Elwood-John Glenn on Thursday in a game that went to 20 penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie lasted through two overtimes.

No. 4 Shoreham-Wading River defeated No. 5 Westhampton Thursday in the second overtime and will play No.1 Sayville in the quarterfinals on Monday at 2 p.m.

Girls Soccer - A Bracket

No. 4 Miller Place goalie Danielle Bambola had nine saves but the one that got by was enough to give No. 5 Islip the win on Tuesday.

Three second half goals were enough to lift No. 3 Shoreham-Wading River over No. 6 Harborfields Tuesday. The Wildcats head to No.2 Bayport-Blue Point (who defetaed No. 7 Mt. Sinai) at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Field Hockey - B Bracket

No. 3 Rocky Point took down No. 6 Southampton, 1-0, Tuesday and will take on No. 2 Harborfields Friday at 2:30 p.m.

No. 4 Shoreham-Wading River was felled by No. 5 Miller Place, 2-1, Tuesday. The Panthers face No.1 Sayville Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Cross Country Championships are set for 3:15 p.m. Friday at Sunken Meadow State Park and three football teams play this weekend. In Div. III, No. 3 Miller Place hosts No. 6 Harborfields Saturday at 2:20 p.m. In Div. IV, No. 3 Mt. Sinai takes on No. 6 Port Jefferson Friday at 7 p.m. and No. 5 Shoreham-Wading River at No. 4 Babylon, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m.
