Competing for Team Honduras in the 55kg freestyle wrestling category, Rocky Point High School grad Brandon Escobar took to the mat Friday in the Summer Olympics' round of 16, though he was defeated by Armenian wrestler Mihran Jaburyan.
Escobar lost, 3-1, after earning a first-round bye in the group of 19 wrestlers. He earned three total points to Jaburyan's 12.
Escobar had trained in Setauket with a strength & conditioning coach, at the NY Athletic Club in New York City and with X-cel Wrestling at Eastport-South Manor HS.
He had previously finished first in his weight class in the 2009 Fila Junior World Championships.
