Rocky Point Wrestler Thomas Dutton Caps Outstanding Season

10th-grader finishes fourth in All-State championship.

Rocky Point High School 10th-grade wrestling standout Thomas Dutton capped off this year’s varsity wrestling season with not only a 50-4 record, but also his first All-State athletic honor.

After a tough match against the state’s top wrestlers, Dutton finished fourth during this year’s All-State championship. The team captain has amassed more than 170 wins at the high school level to date.

He is on pace to break the all-time Suffolk County wins record, has been named League VI individual champion for the past four years, helped the team win the League VI tournament championship and has four All-County designations to his name.

“Thomas is the heart and soul of the Eagles wrestling team,” said Darren Goldstein, who coached the team to a 24-1 winning record this year and an eighth-place ranking in New York State. “His presence has helped others elevate their game to an elite level, and that’s what makes him so special.

"They say you can tell someone is an MVP when they make those around them better; Thomas Dutton is certainly an MVP in Rocky Point because of who he is both on and off the mat.”

Spoken like a true teacher. Did you know that the average school teacher is only paying 15% of theRead More actual cost of health care premiums for themselves and their families, when Medical healthcare insurance premiums are rising at an alarming 17% per annum? Do you realize that teachers are paid an additional stipend if they work more than 3 consecutive periods in a day? Are you aware that teacher pensions were protected during the stock market crash of 2008, when the average person's 401K was totally at risk? Perhaps if teachers realized how good they have it - look at the BIG picture and outside of their bubble - then they would complain less. Oh and yes, we need our loftily-paid Administrators to kick in some of the salaries, to help pay for stuff. Hard to believe the school districts' mantras that "it's all for the kids".
