Sports Roundup: Local Baseball Teams Top League, College Stars Shine

Miller Place and Rocky Point varsity baseball both at top of league, Miller Place alum leads all college freshman in three point shooting percentage.

Local college athletes recently made headlines, and there were a few noteworthy happenings in the local sports scene as well.

Morrisville State freshman Jack Martocello, a Miller Place alum, scored four goals for the men's lacrosse team in a recent 15-13 win. Martocello's team remains undefeated in conference play.

Miller Place grad Jack Hepburn, now playing basketball at Green Mountain College, recently finished a strong freshman season. Hepburn ranked number one amongst freshman in the entire nation in three point shooting percentage (37.4%) and was the number two freshman in the nation in three points made per contest (2.5).

Jesse Dietrichson recently helped lead the Miller Place badminton team to a 9-0 win over Commack by defeating Connor McQueeney, 15-8, 17-15, in first singles. The mens badminton team won its next match and is now 8-0 on the season.

The Rocky Point baseball team won its latest game, 5-1, over Islip and is now 11-3 and in first place in League VI ahead of Miller Place (10-4). The Eagles took two out of three from the Panthers in a series at the beginning of April. The rivals
