PHOTO: Operation Veronica Recognized by County

Rocky Point group recognized for support of servicemen and women.

Operation Veronica, a group that meets at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Rocky Point to sew, pack and ship handmade items to soldiers, was recently recognized by Suffolk County for their efforts.

Suffolk County Legis. Sarah Anker presented them a proclamation at a recent Suffolk legislature meeting, and members of the group were on hand to accept. To date, the organization has shipped more than 26,000 handmade items including neck coolers that are used to keep soldiers cool in the 115 degree heat, and neck gators to provide warmth in winter.

“Operation Veronica is a truly exceptional organization that deserves be honored for their avid volunteerism,” Anker said. “They are a caring group of people who give of their time and talents to comfort the troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and Djibouti, Africa.”
