Sound Beach Woman Dedicating Efforts to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Cindy Aronstam a candidate for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Woman of the Year honor.

The Long Island chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society recently announced that Cindy Aronstam of Sound Beach is a candidate in the upcoming 2012 Man and Woman of the Year campaign.

Aronstam was selected based on her strong commitment to the society and its mission of raising awareness and funds to find a cure for blood cancers.

“I am impressed with the mission of this organization and the amount of money that goes toward it as opposed to paying for salaries or other overhead,” she said in a release. ”I hope to stay involved and make a difference with this organization until we find a cure.”

The Sound Beach woman got involved based on her own personal experiences, as many of her loved ones have been affected by cancer, starting with the loss of her father to pancreatic cancer at age 51.

"My mother is a survivor of thyroid cancer," she said. "My close friend of 22 years, Andrea, battled and beat ovarian cancer at age 41 and her mother fought breast cancer, endured a double mastectomy and recently beat lung cancer.”

Aronstam has been actively dedicated to finding a cure for pancreatic cancer. She participates in various fundraising events throughout the year including those for other cancers such as the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition’s Annual Walk, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and Relay for Life.
