Afternoon Thunderstorms Cut Power to 734 in Miller Place

LIPA's early estimate is restoration between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday.

Sudden onslaught of afternoon thunderstorms has cut off electricity to hundreds of Miller Place-Rocky Point area residents.

Long Island Power Authority is reporting 2,702 customers without power in Suffolk County after a string of afternoon thunderstorms, largely along the North Shore, struck Friday, according to its outage map.

There are 734 households without electricity in Miller Place as of 2:05 p.m. with another 46 power outages in the Mount Sinai area.

LIPA is indicating that it hopes to restore all power to the Miller Place area by 5 pm., followed by restoring power by 9 p.m. to Mount Sinai.
