- The Long Island Museum’s Carriage Collection: A National Treasure in Your Backyard: Come learn about a world of transportation before cars! One of the planet’s best horse-drawn vehicle collections—in any museum, anywhere—is on view just a few short miles away, in Stony Brook, at the Long Island Museum. This 45-minute lecture with slides, presented by the museum’s chief curator, Joshua Ruff, explores highlights of the museum’s carriage collection, examines how the collection was assembled, and details the recently completed reinstallation of the museum’s carriage galleries. It will be like taking a virtual tour through the museum. The event will be on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Port Jefferson Free Library.

- Everyday Matinees: Have you missed a movie that everyone is talking about? Join us for a viewing of recently released films without spending a fortune. The Lone Ranger (PG-13) Native American warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice. This program is open to all Suffolk County residents. Call 928-1212 or visit our website to register. The movie will begin at 2 p.m. on Jan. 23 at the Comsewogue Public Library.
