North Shore Agenda: Graduations, Acoustic Jams

Head outdoors and celebrate the official start of summer this weekend with  one of these many activities near the Miller Place-Rocky Point area. 

MILLER PLACE-ROCKY POINT

Live Music

• The 2 Man Acoustical Jam plays on the patio of Carmody’s in Rocky Point Sunday afternoon starting at 1 p.m.

• Napper Tandy’s features live music all weekend with Slingshot on Friday night and The Big Show on Saturday.

School

• The 2013 Miller Place and Rocky Point senior classes take the next step and grab their diplomas at their commencement ceremonies at the high schools, both at 6 p.m.
• Congratulate Mt. Sinai’s class of 2013 at their graduation on Saturday at 7 p.m.

History

• The Three Village Historical Society presents a walking tour of local history at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Setauket.

School

• Come bid Ward Melville’s senior class adieu on Sunday at the annual graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. (rain date Monday).

Entertainment

• Harmony Vineyards in nearby Head of the Harbor presents“The Rock and Roll Photography of Mark Weiss” to benefit the Long Island Music Hall of Fame: Saturday at 3 p.m.

• The Staller Center at Stony Brook University presents “The Acrobats of Cirque-Tacular” at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Recreation

• The Three Village Garden Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Emma S. Clark Memorial Library.

Family

• There’s a “horseshoe crab walk” to learn all about horseshoe crabs at West Meadow Beach on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Register for the free program by emailing egerle@brookhaven.org.

Recreation

• Those with kids in 4th through 12th grades interested in competitive sailing, and also those who are interested in learning how to live on the water are encouraged to come to the On Water Open House at The Stony Brook School Sailing Center floating docks at 150 Beach Street in Port Jefferson Station. The open house takes place June 14 and June 21 from 5 - 8 p.m.

Kids

• Build an air powered rocket to race with a friend at the Maritime Explorium Saturday at 1 p.m.

Food & Drink

• Enjoy free beer samples from Sierra Nevada Brewing Company at Brewtopia, 134 Main Street in Port Jefferson on Saturday starting at 2 p.m.

• Sunday from 1 - 4 p.m. Vine 2 Wine will be hosting a complimentary wine tasting featuring Routestock Chardonnay 2011 and a Villamedoro Montepulciano Rosso del Duca 2009.
