Shout out in comments what comes to mind when viewing this piece of art.
Welcome to the first installment of Patch's new weekly feature where Patch presents readers with a work from a local artist and ask our readers to comment on what the work means to them. The following week, Patch lets the artist have their say, telling us what they were thinking when they created the piece. This week, we are featuring a piece by East End Arts Arts Council member Barbara Wyckoff, of Miller Place, who has been a fiber artist for the past 40 years. How does her art make you feel? Comment below. Be sure to check back on Saturday to find out what the artist had to say about her piece. Editor's Note: This post is curated by East Quogue photographer Meryl Spiegel.

Suffolk County's emergency notification system sent out alerts in Sound Beach after gunshot incident Wednesday.
After Wednedsay's incident involving a gunman in Sound Beach, news spread fast after Suffolk County's CodeRED alert system was kicked into action. According to the County's website, the CodeRED emergency notification system is "an extremely high speed telephone communication service that can deliver customized pre-recorded emergency messages directly to Suffolk County homes and business at the proven capacity of millions of calls per day." After residents received a call from Suffolk Police alerting them of a man in Sound Beach dressed in black who fired a shotgun, many took to Facebook and Twitter to alert their neighbors as well. (Editor's Note: The following is a letter sent to Patch from Miller Place School District resident Wlodek Guryn. The views expressed are that of Mr. Guryn's.) By: Wlodek Guryn There is a survey on the Miller Place School District website, which is designed to totally distract from the real issues in this budget season. I hope MPSD taxpayers and residents join me requesting that the survey is taken off the taxpayers supported MPSD website. As an example, below is, at best, a misleading question in the survey. Did you name your son Eli, get a helmet tattoo on your neck or paint your RV Big Blue? Tell us your stories of ultimate New York Giants fandom.
Sports is about much more than games. It’s about how we celebrate our teams, obsess over athletes, recite statistics and even party. It can dictate what we wear, where we vacation and even who we marry. The New York Giants face the San Francisco 49ers Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST (Fox-TV) for the right to play in the Super Bowl. So as we count the days to the NFC Championship Game and recount the improbable, plucky run by the Giants, it’s also time to celebrate our fandom. Everyone has that fan-tastic story: Did you name your son Eli (or Tiki), get a helmet tattoo on your neck or paint your RV Big Blue? Maybe you’re a fourth-generation season ticket holder or proposed to your girlfriend at halftime. Tell us your stories of ultimate New York …

K. The more I think about your statement- the more it makes me think. Interesting how someone can look into a piece of art and bring clarity to the artist as much as the other way around.   more ›
