Assaggio Owner Cites High Rent in Move From Rocky Point To Sound Beach

Restaurant moves into new location in Sound Beach.

After years at its location at the Crossroads Plaza on Route 25a in Rocky Point, Assaggio Ristorante has moved to Whitestone Road in Sound Beach.

The restaurant moves to the former location of Sal Anthony's, which initially opened up as the new Rubino's years ago.

"The other store was way too big, I could not afford the rent," said owner Peter Rappa. "It was not profitable anymore so we moved here in more or less the same neighborhood."

Rappa said he is friends with the old owners, and when they were ready to move he made the change quickly.

"We just want this to be a place for the Sound Beach community to come for a nice slice of pizza or dinner," he said.

They officially made the switch at the beginning of the month, leaving a vacancy in the Rocky Point plaza. A "for lease" sign for the location, which seats over 130, was recently put at the corner. Those interested can call 209-0919 for more information.

The shopping center will soon have another vacancy as Plaza Sports is set to make its move to the old Miller Place Administration Building, also a smaller location, sometime this year.
