Miller Place Alum Accepted into National Society of Collegiate Scholars

Miller Place alumni Lautaro Ezequiel was recently accepted as a new member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, an achievement that provides students with opportunities to build their future careers through networking resources, scholarships, travel and service projects both on campus and within the community.

Immigrating from Argentina, Lautaro credits his successes to the Miller Place School District.

“I couldn’t be more grateful for the positive influence that Miller Place had on my growth as an academic scholar,” Ezequiel said  “Without the support of Miller Place teachers, faculty and my peers, I wouldn’t be where I am today."

Membership into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars is by invitation only and based on grade point average and class standing.  There are roughly one million lifetime members among the 300 chapters throughout the United States.

“It’s incredible to see the impact our school district can have on the students,” said Superintendent Marianne Higuera. “Lautaro entered our school district as a 4th grader, only speaking a few words of English and now he is a national scholar; what a great accomplishment.”

At Miller Place High School, Lautaro participated in three varsity sports, was a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Foreign Language National Honor Society, was in the Service Club where he participated in community service activities and volunteered his time to charity with the Future Business Leaders of America Club.

Additionally, Lautaro won many awards including Scholar Athlete, English Student of the Month and General Academic Excellence award.
